Senegal ITF Futures: Oyinlomo Stuns French Player To Advance As Sarah Falters In Qualifiers

Any chance of a female Nigerian player making it to the Main Draws of the ongoing Women ITF Futures in Senegal may have received a massive boost after Nigerian teenage sensation, Oyinlomo Quadre outplayed her French opponent in two straight sets of 6-1, 6-1.

Nigerian Tennis Live checks revealed that the young Nigerian who got a Wild Card to participate in the recently-concluded Governor’s Cup Tennis Championship in Lagos, did not give Excellent Heranne any breathing space in the match that barely lasted 50 minutes.

Oyinlomo, who recently underperformed at the three-legged Junior ITF Futures in Benin Republic and Togo, may have picked form at the right time to end the year on a really high note since she could pick her first pro-circuit points if she gets to the Main Draw and can manage at least a win.

Nigeria’s Oyinlomo may advance to the Main Draws of the ITF pro-circuit in Senegal is she wins her second match.

Her win makes sure that three Nigerians are in the second round of the qualifying series after Sarah Adegoke lost badly in a match which she was expected to have easily won.

Adegoke, the Nigerian number two female player, won the first set 6-4 against Ashmitha Easwaramurthi, her Indian opponent, was leading the second 5-2 and had everything that was required for her to break at 40-40, but did not pick any game further, losing the set 5-7 and crumbling 0-6 in the final set.

Aminat Quadri, the elder sibling of Oyinlomo, did not have to play a match before advancing to the second phase of the qualifiers as she walked over her opponent Purnima Shakaalya from India in the first round of the qualifying series.

With these results, Nigerians will be hoping to see one of the ladies advance to the Main Draw of the tournament which is where their real might will be tested against players who are top on the ranking log.

Nigerian Tennis Live will keep monitoring the players’ progress at the $25,000 tournament and keep our readers abreast of the latest developments.
