Stavanger ITF: Nigeria’s Abayomi Clashes Against Another Swedish Player For Third Round Berth

Nigeria’s Abayomi Phillips is in action today at the ongoing Stavanger Junior ITF Circuit competition in Norway, as he seeks a third round berth in the competition.

The 476 ranked player who had to go through the qualifying series to make it to the main draw of the competition will take on Edis Nokic from Sweden to cement his place in the third round of the competition.

Phillips is the tournament’s number one seed in spite of his qualification route, and got a bye in the first round to land in the second round where he will now have to battle the Swedish player to maintain his pre-tournament tag as one of the favourites to win the Grade 5 ITF title.

The youngster who’s also one of the top 25 junior players in Africa will be seeking to move into the world’s top 200 rankings as he continues to play Junior ITF competitions across Europe.

His match today is billed to commence not before 9:30am inside the indoor tennis court of the Stavanger Tennisklubb, Stavanger, Norway, where the competition is gathering momentum.

Nigeria Tennis Live can report that his fellow Nigerian, Emmanuel Jebutu, will play no part in the singles main draw as he did not register in time, and did not get a wild card to participate in the event.

Our correspondent gathered, however, that he already is in the main draw of the second leg of the Norway junior tennis championship.
