Team Delta and Ekiti are overwhelming favorites to clinch gold medals in the boys and girls Singles final matches at the ongoing National Youth Games in Ilorin.

The tennis event which is reaching its finale is expected to be concluded on Monday, 18 October, and both Delta and Ekiti States stand a chance of winning gold medals in both boys and girls categories.

Oluwaseun Ogunshakin ensured that Ekiti moved on from last year’s disappointment to thrash Lagos’s Michael Nekepkeme who has had an amazing tournament, 4-1, 4-2 while his opponent, Abubakary Yusuf battled hard to earn his win against number one seed, Mubarak Ganiyu in a 1-4, 4-2, 10-4 game.

The match between Yusuf and Mubarak was extremely tense as the Delta player, coupled with the support of his team, won his second consecutive long match at the Games, and will now be a clear favorite for the gold medal .

Thus, Mubarak, a national player, had to settle for bronze medal at the 2021 edition of the competition.

The finals of the Singles matches will be played on Monday morning, followed by the Doubles Semis and Finals before the Mixed Doubles event will follow suit.
