The hype around youngster Khadijat Mohammed has been sustained by the player who reached her first ever senior final at the Dala Hard Court Tennis Championship in Kano State.

The Abuja-based player who got into the competition through a wild card slot, is among the top five players highlighted by Nigeria Tennis Live for tennis followers to watch out for at the competition and she has not disappointed.

She has taken every game one at a time and has now found her way to the finals of the competition after another spirited performance against Favour Moses in their semis encounter.

Mohammed must be feeling charged up after securing her place in the final by winning the semifinal match in two straight sets of 6-1, 6-4.

The final match is against Blessing Omotayo who won an unbelievable match against giant killer Anu Aiyegbusi, the tournament’s number one seed.

Omotayo, seeded in the championship, won 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 and will have to be at her outstanding best when she faces teenage sensation Khadijat Mohammed in the Women’s Singles final.

Another impressive player, arguably the most outstanding, John David, also continued his fairytale run in the championship as he defeated seeded player, Timibra Godsgift, to reach the Men’s Singles semis of the tournament.

He won the extremely long two-set encounter 7-6(1), 7-6(5) and will now have a win against Canice Abua to reach his first ever senior final.

Abubakar Yusuf, who predicted that he would reach the final of the competition, was also extremely determined as he took out the vastly experienced Nonso Madueke in their quarterfinal encounter to set up a match against the ageless Henry Atseye in the second semifinal fixture.

This has been one of the most unpredictable semifinal, final fixtures for both the Men and Women’s Singles respectively, in recent years.
