There are some really surprising ranking spots in the newly-released national rankings by the Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF) on Tuesday, 12 October, 2026.
The number one spots are still being maintained by Canice Abua and Khadijat Mohammed whose leads appear almost unassailable for the foreseeable future.

Abua has reached the final of every national tournament since the Dala Hard Court Championship in Kano last year, losing only the DavNotch Open tennis tourney to Abubakar Yusuf who is now Nigeria’s new number two male tennis player.

Khadijat Mohammed, on the flip side has failed to reach the final of the last two national tournaments. In spite of this, she still tops the Women’s rankings by a wide margin, while Suwa Nenrot comes in second after back-to-back final appearance in Kano and Benue.

Points earned during the 2025 editions of Rainoil and Vemp Open championships have been effectively wiped off as they are not on the Nigerian tennis calendar for 2026. This development has thrown up an interesting twist to how the Men’s Singles rankings look.

Former Nigerian number one male tennis player, Daniel Adeleye, is now ranked below the top 10 in the national rankings while Lagos-based Basit Ajao reached top 10 for the first time ever.

Meanwhile, Etoro Bassey’s incredible run during the last two national tournaments where she won the CBN Open and lost the DavNotch Open championships has taken her to top three in the National Rankings.
As at the time of putting this report together, the NTF had yet to release the Doubles Rankings. Nigeria Tennis Live will keep our readers updated as soon as there is an update on the rankings.
