Lagos-based Ayomiposi Agboola, aka ‘Posi, was full of ecstasy after winning his first ever match in an ITF competition.

The Lagos Country Club, Ikeja, Lagos trainee defeated Namibia’s Joel Hiveluah 6-1, 6-1 in what was the Nigerian’s second ITF match having lost in his first ITF engagement.

“This is second ITF tournament, but it’s my first ever win and I am very happy about it,” the man fondly called ‘Posi told Nigeria Tennis Live.

The former student of Coach Wunmi Ogunsakin from Ekiti State reckoned that he was not up to the task when he played his first ITF competition hence his loss in the match.

“My training was not so intense before now. My training level was very low before, maybe that’s why i didn’t win the first match that I played in this competition.

“But I now train about 8 hours per day, non-stop. I believe I’m in a better shape than I was when I first played an ITF tournament. I’m grateful to my trainer, Coach Ben, for his help and his guidance,” the player noted.

On how the win made him feel, ‘Posi said: “I feel very excited and didn’t expect it would be that easy. I was tense going into the match, but I’m glad that I won.”

‘Posi also expressed his gratitude to some of the members at the Lagos Country Club for their support towards his participation at the competition as he stated that, “I self-sponsored myself to be here but I must express my deep appreciation to some members of the Lagos Country Club for also coming to my aid when I needed support.”

His next match will be against Ikenna Okonkwo, a tough player and one of the top seeds, and the Lagos boy said: “I’m going to give it my all.

“If I play my best, I may be able to play final set against him because he’s a really good player and winning the I’ll be an icing on the cake.”
