The proposed UTR National tournament scheduled to start on Sunday, 17 December, 2023, has been postponed, Nigeria Tennis Live has gathered.

The event, organized by the Tennis Players Parents Association (TPPA), is a culmination of the regional event held in five regions across the federation a few months ago.

Akwa-Ibom, Abuja, Onitsha, Ibadan and Niger hosted the regional events and produced champions who were meant to meet and compete at the grand finale in Lagos.

But reports reaching Nigeria Tennis Live now have it that the nationals will no longer hold this year, as the organizers have now rescheduled the event to hold in January, 2024.

Mr. Segun Aluko, the TPPA President, in a message to our correspondent confirmed that this decision was reached on Tuesday, 13 December, 2023, after the sponsors of the event asked for more time.

“So, we’ve postponed till January, we will be doing it immediately after Aziimuth.

“The sponsors asked for more time. They told us that their brand team will not be around to give us the activation and branding support,” he noted.

Although the new date for the event has not be exactly communicated, the organizers confirmed that the competition will now hold immediately after the first national junior tournament in 2024.
