2019 African Games: Sylvester, Imeh Fire On As Team Nigeria Progress
Nigeria’s number one and two male players, Sylvester Emmanuel and Joseph Imeh justified their national rankings during their doubles match at the ongoing African Games in Rabat, Morocco.
Even though Imeh retired in the second set of his singles match against Eliakim Coulibaly of Cote D’Ivoire, having lost the first set 4-6, he and his doubles partner were in blistering form in the team event.
The Davis Cup teammates partnered to defeat the Namibian pair of Erasmus and Van Dyk in a 2-1 game to boost Nigeria’s chances of moving towards a podium place finish.
In his singles match, Sylvester was also in devastating form, as he pummeled Gueninle Ouattara of Cote D’Ivoire in two straight sets of 6-4, 6-4, to keep coasting in the competition.
Oyinlomo Quadre and Adesuwa Osabuohien were in a world of their own when they crushed Bechri and Ben Hassen, both from Tunisia, in two sets of 6-3, 6-2.
With these results, Nigerian players seem to be doing pretty well in this competition and are edging closer to increasing the country’s medal tally at the Games.
Nigeria Tennis Live will bring more updates from the competition as Nigerian players progress in the tournament.
