Coach James Anukam did not hold back when advising one of his products, Uche Oparaoji, to leave the country as soon as possible.
In a brief chat with Nigeria Tennis Live, he explained that Oparaoji, Nigeria’s Davis Cup captain, must leave the country because it is the best thing for him right now.
According to him, leaving Nigeria seems like the surest way for the player to thrive more than he presently is as things are not particularly working for the former Nigerian number one.
Coach Anukam said: “If you are close to Uche, tell him to start looking for a way to get out of this country. I know it may not be easy, but that’s the best thing for him now.”

The grassroots coach of the Davis Cup captain from Imo State noted the Nigerian tennis circuit is not encouraging for any tennis player and does not believe his most prized player should remain in the country.
“Tell him to find his way out of this country,” he insisted, when asked for more reasons he believes his player should leave Nigeria.
This comment by the man who won nearly 40 medals while playing in the juniors, seniors and at state level, may have been as a result of the recent influx of Nigerian players into the United States to play College Tennis.
Even though Oparaoji may not be in a place to play College Tennis given his age and requirements to be able to play College Tennis.
