The ongoing Vemp Open Tennis Championship holding in Abuja witnessed some impressive displays by the big guns in Nigerian tennis as the weaker players caved in under pressure from the more established pros.
Earlier today, Nigerian Tennis Live had tipped Clifford Enosoregbe to defeat the legendary Shehu Lawal in their Singles match, and he did not waste time in achieving this feat. In fact, the latter had to retire while losing at 0-5, such was the dominance of the former champion.
Christian Paul, a Davis Cup player, lost his match to Emmanuel Idoko at the ongoing Vemp Open Tennis Championship in Abuja. |
Enosoregbe, winner of the first edition of the NPA Open which was held in Abuja a few years ago, was in blistering form as he took the first set 6-1, before racing to a 5-0 lead at which point Lawal retired from the game.
In other results, Nigeria’s number one male player, Joseph Imeh, thrashed Ezeh Tochukwu 6-0, 6-3, just as Sylvester Emmanuel, winner of the 2018 edition of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Open, got the better of Sani Musa 6-4, 6-2 in another exciting game of the day.
Ageless Abdulmumin Babalola was also in a killer mood on the day, as he crushed youngster, Godsgift Timibra 6-2, 6-1.
Action resumes on Wednesday inside the tennis section of the National Stadium, Abuja, as the national tournament nears its money-spinning stage.
