In spite of a comprehensive defeat of youngster, Serena Teluwo, in the first round of their first round match on Monday, 9 November, Oyinlomo Quadre believes her opponent is just on her way to the top.

Quadre and Serena are friends on and off the court and were not so lucky to have been pitted against one another in the very first match of the 2020 Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Open competition.

The Nigerian number one defeated her practice partner in two quick sets of 6-0, 6-0 in a match she was expected to win.

However, she has described the match as a very emotional one for her, especially because she they train together and the fact that she wanted her opponent to go far in the competition.

In a brief chat with Nigeria Tennis Live after the win, Quadre said: “Well, it was a very emotional one because she’s my training partner and someone I wanted to go really far in this tournament.”

The African number two junior superstar quickly noted that people should watch out for the 14-year-old youngster, because: “I know this isn’t the end.

“This is just the beginning of the name ‘Serena Teluwo’.”

The pair have since shifted their attention to the Doubles event, and are hoping to clinch the title for the team event.

Quadre is seeking to retain the title she won in 2019 and consolidate her place as Nigeria’s number one female tennis player.

Nigeria Tennis Live will keep monitoring the outcome of matches in the competition which is in the second day of the 43rd edition.
