Nigerian Tennis Live can report that tennis players have stormed Abuja in their hundreds ahead of preliminaries of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Senior Open which serves off inside the package B of the National Stadium in the nation’s capital.

The press conference to announce the commencement of the championship was held on Tuesday, 19 June, at the same venue, where it was revealed that the prize money and everything else about the tournament’s organization remained the same.
Abdulmumin Babalola, the Team Nigeria’s captain to the ongoing Davis Cup in Kenya is the defending champion of the CBN Open.

And without fail, the players who came from different parts of the country, marched to the federal capital to honour the 40th edition of the tournament, having being accustomed to playing in Lagos.

According to Nigerian Tennis Live feelers from Abuja, the players are already jostling for places in the main draw as the preliminary stage gets underway from Thursday, 21 June – Sunday, 24 June, while the real deal serves off on Monday, 25 June.

Abdulmumin Babalola and Sarah Adegoke are the defending champions in the man and women’s singles respectively, but it is yet to be seen if they can defend their title and add N700,000 each to their bank account balance.

Nigerian Tennis Live will keep tabs on the build up to the tournament and file in progress reports on the players’ progress in the competition.
