Nigeria’s Jebutu Recognized For Academic Brilliance In American University
Emmanuel Jebutu has been named among the most outstanding students in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) for the 2023/2024 session.
The former Lagos-based tennis player who now plays and schools at Weatherford College is his school’s only tennis player to make the first team which comprises of students with the perfect 4.0 GPA.
Nigeria Tennis Live gathered from the institution’s website that his school also topped the all-academic list in the Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference.
“The National Junior College Athletic Association has announced its 2023-24 All-Academic Teams, recognizing student-athletes across the country for their dedication in the classroom.

“Weatherford College topped the all-academic list in the Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference and is the fourth highest ranked among the 23 institutions in NJCAA Region V with 47 students on the list.
“Student-athletes earn NJCAA All-Academic honors by achieving a grade point average of 3.60 or higher for the 2023-24 academic year.
“Those with a 3.60 to 3.79 GPA are NJCAA All-Academic Third Team, 3.8 to 3.99 are NJCAA All-Academic Second Team, and perfect 4.0 GPAs earn NJCAA All-Academic First Team,” the school’s website was quoted to have written.
While listing the honorees, the website listed Nigeria’s Jebutu as the only tennis player to make the cut.

Checks by our correspondent on the website showed the following: “The Coyote honorees are: All-Academic First Team;
Baseball: Carson Lightfoot, Trey Maples, Luke Robertson, Jalen Rogers, Dylan Russo; Women’s Basketball: Diana Mozer; Men’s Golf: Emil Lovstrup, Charlie Townsend; Softball: Tori Thompson; Men’s Tennis: Emmanuel Jebutu; Volleyball: Lorena Gomez, Meagen Ledbetter.”
While sharing the piece of good news with Nigeria Tennis Live, the tennis player who was outstanding throughout his sophomore year at the institution could not hide his excitement.
The aspiring Sports Management expert noted that it was always a dream for him to play College tennis since he was a kid.
He said: “It’s a huge achievement for me cause college tennis has been what I wanted since I was a kid.

“So I have been working really hard on and off the court staying focus also reading my books and going for classes because it has not been easy also trying to get used to the computer”.
Jebutu joins the likes of Oyinlomo Quadre, Serena Teluwo and Jumai Muhammed, as Nigerian student-athletes who have been rewarded for their academic brilliance in their respective United States universities.
