David Ekpenyong is in the semifinal stage of the ongoing J100 event in Accra, Ghana, Nigeria Tennis Live has gathered.

He is now the only Nigerian player left in the competition after his compatriot, Daniel Adeleye, lost his quarterfinal match earlier.

The Nigerian player lost his quarterfinal game to Debasis Sahoo, the Indian player who was responsible for the defeat of fellow Nigerian Joseph Jimoh. The man ended 7-5, 6-1.

Ekpenyong defeated Ankrah Nii Raphael from Ghana in two sets of 6-3, 6-2 to land in the semis where he will be playing against Mickael Kauk from France who upset the tournament’s number one seed.

As it stands, if he wins his semis match, it will be his second consecutive appearance in the final of a J100 event after his initial appearance in Quebec, Canada, where he ended as a runner-up.

Nigerians will be hoping their number one player will be up to the task and ensure that he reaches the final and wins his first ever J100 event at the second time of trying.
