Lagos Open Tennis: Youngsters Oyinlomo, Oiza Get Wild Cards To Play Main Draws
Oyinlomo Quadre and Oiza Yakubu will be in action as the Main Draw of the Women Singles at the Lagos Open International Tennis Championship serves off today.
Quadre, one of Nigeria’s brightest female stars in recent years, will be playing against senior player, Patience Onebamhoin, for a place in the second round of the competition.
This match between the pair will attract Nigerians to the Court 3 of the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Onakan, where the competition is presently taking place.
Meanwhile, Oiza, another buzzing female tennis youngster, will have her hands full when she takes on Riya Bhatia, the tournament’s number seed from India.
Ahead of the match, Oiza, who was one of the bright youngsters at the 2018 Rainoil competition, where she caused series of upsets, told Nigeria Tennis Live that she would simply play her game.
Asked if she’ll defeat the top seed, she said with a smile: “I’ll just play my game, and see what happens afterwards.”
In other matches, Aanu Aiyegbusi, Blessing Samuel, Omolade Aderemi will be hoping for a second round place at the tournament.
Sylvester Emmanuel, Nigeria’s number one male player, will also seek a berth in the main draw of the Men’s Singles when he takes on giant killer Emmanuel Jebutu in the second and final qualifying round.
