Lagos Open 2019: Organizers Officially Send Application For Upgrade To Challenger Series

The organizers of the annual Lagos Open International Tennis Championship have revealed that the competition is fast approaching the much anticipated Challenger Series status.

In a press statement issued by the Chairman of the tournament’s Local organizing Committee (LOC), Chief Pius Akinyelure, and read by Prince Wale Oladunjoye, the Tournament Director, at the press briefing held on Thursday, 3 October, the organizers revealed that the application for the upgrade has been made.

The statement reads: “I told you last year of our resolve to move up the ladder to the Association of Tennis Professionals Challenger Circuit (ATPCC). The application has been made through the Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF) the de jure owners of this championship and it is receiving favourable consideration.

“Without them, there cannot be a Lagos Open. Please join me ladies and gentlemen in applauding this wonderful federation. I salute you Mr. President NTF.”

The players coming from over 50 countries will compete in men and women Singles and Doubles event for the cash prize of $100,000 across two weeks.

Nigeria Tennis Live can authoritatively report that the competition kicks off on Monday, 7 October and climax on Saturday, 20 October, 2019, inside the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Onikan, Lagos.
