JUST IN! Ekpenyong Upsets Top Seed, Lands In J100 Accra Final

David Ekpenyong has reached his second consecutive final at the J100 event in Accra, Ghana, Nigeria Tennis Live has gathered.

The Nigerian number one player, who was a runner-up in last week’s event, was outstanding in the match against the competition’s number one seed, Carel Ngounoue, defeating him in two straight sets of 6-4, 6-4.

With this win, Ekpenyong, winner of the J60 event in Accra, Ghana two weeks ago, will now square up against Nikola Jovic, the tournament’s number two seed.

The Serbian player outplayed Daniel Adeleye in two gruesome sets of 5-7, 3-6, to land in his second consecutive J100 event final and with the hope of winning it back-to-back.

This development all but killed the dreams of a first-ever all-Nigeria finale at the J100 event, with Adeleye coming short despite fighting so hard.

Nigerians will expect their golden boy, Ekpenyong, to come clutch when he comes up against Jovic for the third consecutive week.

In their two previous meetings, the Nigerian Davis Cup player won the J60 event while his Serbian opponent took the J100.

With their head-to-head standing at 1-1, this tie will eventually state who will emerge as the ultimate winner in the three weeks since they started this unprecedented rivalry.

For Nigerians, all eyes will be on Ekpenyong to deliver the goods when it matters the most as the two most valuable players at the competition lock horns.
