J60 Accra: Rampaging Okonkwo Defeats Adeleye To Finally Win First J60 Title

Prosperity Okonkwo has finally won his first ever J60 title after defeating Daniel Adeleye in the final of the Boys’ Singles at the J60 Accra event in Ghana.

The Abuja-based tennis sensation fought tooth and nail to defeat Adeleye, Nigeria’s highest ranked player on the junior ITF ranking, to win the keen contest.

Okonkwo’s win over Adeleye is his second title in four weeks and his third in 2024 after initially securing the J30 Abuja title by defeating the same opponent.

Nigeria Tennis Live gathered that the match which had the spectators inside the tennis section of the Accra Sports Stadium on their feet, ended 7-6, 6-4 in favour of the budding tennis player.

In the Doubles final, however, Adeleye took his pound of flesh against Okonkwo, as he partnered Ori Hillel from Israel to defeat the Nigerian and Franklin Jimoh in another final set clash.

The match which ended 6-4, 4-6, 10-8 in favour of Adeleye and Hillel was the first Doubles win for the Nigerian player in the last three weeks since he joined the junior ITF event in Ghana.

As things stand, Okonkwo has won two titles already – the J30 and the J60, while Adeleye has also copped two J60 week one and two.

In the fourth and final week of the six-week long junior ITF tennis tourney in Accra, Ghana, the focus will be on both players who have had outstanding weeks under their belts, as tennis fans will be hoping one of them wins another title in Ghana.
