Nigerian players at the ongoing J30 Abuja event have proven to be exceptional with their performances in the second leg of the ITF event.

The players have ensured that the Boys’ and Girls’ Singles will be won by a Nigerian for the second consecutive week as they have dumped out all their foreign counterparts from the tournament.

Yahaya Sani Inabo, for the second consecutive week, defeated Fu Wang Choi from Hong Kong in two straight sets of 6-4, 6-2 to set up a classic semifinal tie against Ikenna Okonkwo who beat Russia’s Karim Mansurov 6-2, 6-4.

In the second quarterfinal clash, Seun Ogunsakin defeated Daniel Adeleye for the second consecutive week 6-0, 6-4 to reach the semifinal where he takes on his friend and compatriot, Mubarak Ganiyu. Ganiyu won 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(4) in his final set match against Lucky Danjuma.

Blessing Otu will have a very interesting match up against Khadijat Mohammed in the first Girls’ Semifinal match after defeating Toluwalashe 6-2, 6-2 just as Mohammed saw off Fego Ayetuoma 6-0, 6-0.

To determine the second finalist, Ohunene Yakubu, a 6-4, 6-0 winner against Destiny Okhinaye will take on Success Ogunjobi who was the better player when she played against Abimbola Ayinla, winning 6-0, 6-1.

A number of the players are playing in their first ever semifinal matches at any Junior ITF event after their impressive results on Friday, but they will be buoyed even further if they make it to their first finals.

Nigeria Tennis Live will keep our followers and readers updated on the results and latest developments from the second leg of the J30 Abuja event which ends on Sunday, 25 February, 2024 inside the tennis section of the National Stadium in Abuja.
