ITF: Igbinovia Now Highest Ranked Nigerian Junior Tennis Player
Wilson Igbinovia is now officially the highest ranked Nigerian junior tennis player on the Junior ITF Circuit.
The rankings released on Monday showed the Nigerian youngster reached a career-high ranking spot as he is now 316 in the world.
This follows a super two weeks the Nigerian has had, winning a J5 event in Lome, Togo and reaching the final of a J4 tour in the same West African country.
Igbinovia will burst into the top 300 youngsters in the world if he as much as reaches the semis of the J4 event which has kicked off in Benin Republic.
Marylove Edwards is also closing up on Oyinlomo Quadre’s spot on the ITF rankings following the inactivity of the latter over the past few months.
The youngster is now just four places shy of the Nigeria Slam winner. While Edwards moved about 44 places to rank 369 in the world, Quadre dropped four places to stay at 365 on the world rankings.
And the order of play from the J4 event presently going on in Benin Republic, the former US-based youngster is now in the second round and may yet march to the finals or semis, a feat which will all but confirm her as the highest ranked female tennis player on the junior circuit.
Emmanuel Jebutu, Usman Kushimo David Dawariye and Joseph Jimoh, are the other male Nigerian players who rose up the rankings while Oiza Yakubu also moved some places up in the female category.
Nigeria Tennis Live will keep monitoring the activities of the players at the J4 event and other tournaments before the year ends, and report to our teeming audience scattered across the globe.
