Oiza Yakubu has shown enough grit and endurance to pick up her first medal at the tennis event of the Nigeria Youth Games held in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

The talented youngster whom Nigerian Tennis Live had reported to be one of the hopefuls for gold medal at the tournament, did not disappoint with her bravery in the final match against Iye Onoja, another budding Nigerian sensation.

Oiza who played in the U-15 age category, our correspondent learnt, had played a final set match earlier in the day before stepping into court to take on Onoja, and still dragged the match to the final set.

Oiza Yakubu poses with some of the players after receiving her silver medal at the Youth Games.

And even though she showed so much strength and mental toughness to continue the math in spite of a back injury which she sustained in the previous match, she could not hold on for too long as she succumbed to her opponent.

Expectedly, the quiet tennis player was not happy with the result, as she would have preferred the win. However, she was said to have quickly picked herself up and brace up for the next challenge ahead.

Although the finale of the youth games was alleged to have ended in serious chaos, the youngster will remember her time in Ilorin with a glee on her face, and hope to win more medals in future junior championships.

Nigerian Tennis Live will keep monitoring the tennis development of this youngster and hope that she maximizes her potentials to the fullest.
