Joao Menezes is fast emerging as the most enterprising player at the ongoing ITF Futures in Abuja, Nigeria’s federal capital, after defeating top seeds to emerge as one of the biggest threats for top players on the circuit.

The 21-year-old Brazilian who is among the top 10 players in his home country won the first leg of the ITF Futures after defeating unexpected players to climb up the ladder.

Joao Menezes is set to win his second consecutive ITF Futures in Nigeria.

If anyone thought his feat in the Tombim Abuja Open was a fluke, he didn’t show any sign that he was stopping in the Dayak Tennis Championship, as he stepped up his game even more, to send Youssef Hossam, the Egyptian number one seed packing in two straight tough sets of 7-6 (4), 7-6 (2).

After the unbelievable feat, the Brazilian told Nigerian Tennis Live that he did not come to Nigeria just for the fun of it, but to win tournaments like every other player in the competition.

The Brazilian is set to play against another outstanding player in Neuchrist Maximilian, the tournament’s number four seed, for his second consecutive ITF Futures in Nigeria.

The match will kick off by 3:00pm Nigerian time inside the centre court of the tennis section at the National Stadium in Abuja.
