The centre court of the Kano Club will feel the heat this afternoon when Canice Abua battles Uche Oparaoji for the Men’ Singles title at the 2025 Dala Hard Court Tennis Championship.
Oparaoji, Nigeria’s number one male tennis player, is arguably the most consistent player at the tournament having represented Nigeria at the Davis Cup for two consecutive years.
As a former Nigerian number one player, he is also one of the most respected players, as he also skippers the national teams when they are on national assignments. Therefore, it feels like a huge personality that Abua will be coming up against.

The Imo State-born tennis star also seems pumped ahead of the finale, as he defeated some unbelievable players en route to reaching the final. Nonso Madueke and the in-form Michael Emmanuel are among the casualties.
But the fact that Abua made the giant leap to the final of the Dala Championship is not something that can be brushed aside easily.
Unlike Oparaoji, the Abuja-based tennis talent did not drop a set en route to reaching the final. In fact, he was clinical in most of his matches, suggesting a player who possibly has a target.
While spectators may want to argue that the level of opposition faced by Abua cannot be considered as tough as the ones faced by his opponent in the final, it should also be noted that Canice earned the rights to reach the final by winning all his matches.

Interestingly, both players were in camp ahead of Nigeria’s 2024 Davis Cup campaign, and will be hoping to form the team that will take Nigeria to World Group II via the playoffs in South Africa in 2025.
The stage is now set for the final, a match which can pass as a ‘clash of titans’, as tennis players and fans will be thrilled to watch the ‘el classico’ between the number and number three seeds.
Nigeria Tennis Live will keep our readers updated on the outcome of the match which promises to be as exciting as entertaining.
