EXCLUSIVE: Tournament Director Of Junior ITF Circuit Assures Of Safety In South Africa In Spite Of Xenophobic Attacks

Le Roux Conradie, the Tournament Director of the fast approaching Junior ITF Circuit in Stellenbosch, South Africa, has guaranteed players’ safety during the fast approaching championship.

In an exclusive phone conversation with Nigeria Tennis Live, Conradie informed that the venue of the competition is safe and all players are being protected according to best practices by world’s tennis governing body, in the wake of recent Xenophobic attacks in the country.

Nigeria’s Quadre had expressed doubts over her participation in the competition following the recent crises in South Africa, citing inability to secure visa as a major challenge.

But in a swift response to this challenge, the tournament director noted that the Grade 2 competition would hold as planned in spite of the attacks being reported in several parts of South Africa.

When asked about the safety of the players coming around for the competition, especially Nigeria’s Oyinlomo Quadre, he said: “There’s safety for the players here.”

“If she’s in the main draw, we have free accommodation for her from Sunday until she loses in the tournament.

There’s security here in line with the best practices of the international tennis federation for such tournaments so I can confirm that the venue is safe for the tournament and the competition will go on as planned,” Conradie added during the phone conversation.

It remains uncertain if Quadre, ranked 196 in world junior tennis, will still be available to attend the competition.

Nigeria Tennis Live will definitely keep tabs on the youngster and see if she’s still traveling to South Africa after the recent attacks on Nigerians and other African nationals.
