Dayak Open: Sylvester Seeks Another Doubles Final Berth, Can He Make It?

For the second consecutive week, Nigeria’s Sylvester Emmanuel is seeking to land in the final of the doubles event at the ongoing ITF Futures in Nigeria.

Sylvester, who partnered Calvin Hemery from France to dismiss the number one doubles seed, de Paula Fabiano and Fernando Romboli, in the quarterfinal, will fancy his chances of making it to the final of the event when action resumes on Thursday, 11 May.

Sylvester will be gunning for victory in the doubles semis.

The Nigerian star and his partner – born to a Nigerian father – will take on Indian pair of Bava Haadin and Bendre Avit in a match which will evoke emotions at the Package B of the National Stadium, Abuja, where the tournament is presently taking place.

Meanwhile, facts have emerged on the real reason for Clifford Enosoregbe’s loss to Mateusz Smolicki in the first round of the Dayak Championship.

Enosoregbe lost in two straight sets which both ended in tie-breakers and this was perceived as being disappointing by many Nigerians who followed the game and were on ground to watch the players.

In a chat with Naija Tennis Special, Enosoregbe revealed that he actually injured his elbow and this prevented him from putting in his very best during the game.

“Yeah, it was my elbow and as usual, I could not let go. I had to put in my best and everyone who watched the match would have observed that I struggled to get to the place I got to. But that is not to say that my opponent was not good.

“He played really well,” the player explained.

“The medics have asked me to rest the hand for a minimum of four days so that I can be ready for the third leg of the ITF Futures.

“Hopefully, the third leg will not be like the first two that I have participated in so far,” Enosoregbe, a former Nigerian number one player, added.
