CBN Open: Oiza, Onoja, Quadre, Other Juniors Get Wild Cards For Main Draw (Full List)
Youngsters Oiza Yakubu, Iye Onoja and Oyinlomo Quadre are among the top junior players who got the wild cards to compete in the main draw of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Senior Open tennis which will kick off on Monday, 24 June, 2019.
Information obtained by Nigeria Tennis Live revealed that the Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF) technical committee decided to give the wild cards to the youngsters as a way of building their confidence and as a result of their sterling performances over the years.
In the men’s singles event, Emmanuel Jebutu, who came second best at the recently-concluded Zenith Bank Next Gen Masters, Matthew Abamu, David Dawariye and Suleiman Ibrahim got the nod for the wild card.
Oyinlomo Quadre, arguably Nigeria’s best player on the Junior Circuit, Iye Onoja, Favour Moses, and Christy Mbadiwe, were given the slots for the women’s singles.
For the men’s doubles category, the pairs of Emmanuel Jebutu and Tochukwu Ezeh, Phillips Abayomi and David Azi, and Michael Ayoola and Sani Musa were given the wild card to participate in the competition.
Oiza Yakubu and Iye Onoja, Omolayo Bamidele and Jumai Mohammed, and Destiny Okhinaye and Toyosi Adeusi were the three pairs that got the wildcards for the women’s doubles.
The 41st edition of the CBN Senior Open which kicked off with the preliminaries this weekend, will end on Saturday, 29 June, 2019, inside the Package B (tennis section) of the National Stadium, Abuja.
