Nigeria’s Oyinlomo Quadre has won her first round match against Spain’s AlmudenaSanz-Llaneza Fernandez at the ongoing Monastir ITF Tour in Tunisia, in two quick sets.
The Nigerian was ruthless in the first leg, winning four straight games, enroute to her 6-2 win, but she was made to come back in the second set from a 2-5 game to win 7-5.
Quadre was more clinical in the first set of the game, even though she was a bit reckless at the opening stages.
Having broken the Spaniard, ranked 736 on the WTA, to take the lead at 2-0, the talented Nigerian couldn’t maintain the momentum, as she allowed her opponent back into the game at 2-2.
But she soon regained her composure and won four straight games, Rambo style, to end the first set at 6-2.
When they regrouped for the second set, the Spanish player looked to be on the ascendancy, hitting three aces in the process of leading 5-2 against the 17-year-old Nigerian.
But Quadre ended up winning five straight games, saved four set points and cruised to a memorable win against the 30-year-old player inside the court 5 of the Hotel Skanes Family Monastir, venue of the epic clash.
High in confidence after the encounter, the Nigerian superstar noted that it was a mentally tough match for her.
She told Nigeria Tennis Live from Monastir, Tunisia, that: “Hahah it is tough mentally when you are all alone.
“But I knew in my heart like someone said, I have the whole Nigeria behind me.”
Nigeria Tennis Live will continue monitoring the activities of the youngster and report updates from Tunisia to our teeming audience.
