BREAKING: Marylove, Canice Win Boys, Girls Doubles At ITF/CAT AJC Qualifiers Championship In Togo
Nigeria’s Marylove Edwards has copped her first title of the 2020 season after winning the girls doubles at the ongoing ITF/CAT AJC Qualifiers in Lomé, Togo.
Information reaching Nigeria Tennis Live also has it that Canice Abua and David Dawariye shine brightly in the boys doubles as well, defeating their opponent in a hard fought win.
Dawariye partnered Abua – winner of the second leg at the inaugural Abuja Junior ITF tourney – to battle past the Ivorian pair of Koudio Patel and Franklyn Martial Holma in an entertaining 6,2, 7-6 (7-5) match.
The result left the Nigerian team in Togo reeling with excitement as the players were determined to defeat their opponents.
Edwards who shone brilliantly in the doubles event, and rallied alongside Liliy Minet to beat Nigerian compatriots, Rebeca Ekpeyoung and Oiza Yakubu in two straight sets of 6-3, 6-3, to ensure that Nigeria dominated the doubles event.
The US-based youngster wasn’t done for the day yet, as she crushed Oiza Yakubu 6-0, 6-0 in the third place encounter for the girls U-16 singles event between the pair.
For the third place match in the boys U-14 category, Mubarak Ganiyu ensured he had the better of Idris Haruna in a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 game.
As at the time of filing the report, the players were still in the stadium where the last match of the day had just been concluded by the Nigerian youngsters.
