Nigerian Tennis Live can report that Nigeria’s number one male tennis player, Joseph Imeh, has finally won a national tournament after seeing off defending champion, Henry Atseye, in two sets at the final of the Rainoil Tennis Open Championship. Imeh won 6-3, 6-2.

This victory for the former junior star who had been in top form all year ensured that he made the most of his match against the one-handed backhand superstar on a night full of intrigues.

In the female final also decided on Saturday night inside the Ikoyi Club 1938, Blessing Samuel who was playing her second consecutive Rainoil Open final, ensured that she did not make it back to back losses as she defeated the legendary Christie Agugbom in an enthralling encounter.

Samuel was made to wait for her victory, however, as she lost the first set, won the second in a close tie before seeing off her Doubles partner in the last to end the game at 2-6, 7-5, 6-0.

The players will immediately shift their attention to the Dala Hard Court tournament in Kano, which is about the last national championship before the end of the year.

Nigerian Tennis Live will keep up with the trend of covering the tournament and reporting details from the ancient city of Kano to our teeming audience.
