David Ekpenyong is now among the top 200 players in the world and among the top seven in Africa following the recently released rankings by the ITF.
According to checks by Nigeria Tennis Live, the Nigerian teenage player who reached his first ever J100 event on clay last weekend is now ranked 183 in the world.
He moved 32 places on the rankings to stand above other Nigerians on the ranking, while coming toe to toe with some of the best players in Africa.
The Nigerian number one player is currently in Mexico, where he is battling Mexico’s Andres Delgadillo in the first round of the Zapopan J300 competition.

Ekpenyong is in the main draw of the high ranking competition but he is not seeded as the world’s highest ranked junior tennis players are also participating.
His focus will be on going as far as possible in the competition to rake in more points that can help him reach the peak of the rankings before the year ends.
The youngster has had an amazing year already, reaching the top spot in Nigeria, and winning competitions he had not won before, while also helping Nigeria qualify for the Davis Cup Group III slot.
All eyes will be on him in this competition, as Nigerians believe he has what it takes to match up against the best junior players from other parts of the world.
