BREAKING! Blessing Omotayo Defeats Anu Ayegbusi To Win 2024 VEMP Open
Blessing Omotayo has defeated Anu Ayegbusi to win the Women’s Singles title at the 2024 edition of the VEMP Open in Abuja, Nigeria’s federal capital.
The Nigerian number four ranked player was a handful when she took to the court against her opponent and deservedly took a 7-6 lead after a serious battle on the court.
After taking the first set 7-6, Omotayo went down 4-6 in the second, a set which she could have also won to end the tie in two straight sets.

However, Ayegbusi’s experience came to bear and the 2023 CBN Open finalist won the second set to take the match to the final set.
In the ensuing final set, Omotayo took a 3-1 lead against her opponent, but as has been the custom of the match, Ayegbusi rallied her way back into the game to tie it at 3-3.

After battling on the court for about four hours, Jos-based Ayegbusi would eventually lose the title to Omotayo, as the supporters inside the tennis court in Abuja could not hold their cheer.
The game effectively ended 7-6, 4-6, 6-4 in favour of the tournament’s number three seed who did not start the competition as one of the pre-event favourites.
