    Azimuth Junior Tennis: Khadijat Mohammed Emerges As Super Champion

    Khadijat Mohammed from Abuja won two age categories at the Azimuth Shipping Lines Limited Junior Tennis Championship in Lagos, to emerge as the biggest winner of the competition.

    She defeated Bright Emmanuel in the Girls 14 before overpowering Success Ogunjobi in the Girls 16 category.

    Khadijat Mohammed, therefore, took home the education grant in both categories, as well as the winners’ trophies, medals for both.

    Oluwaseun Ogunshakin got the better of his rival and friend, Mubarak Ganiyu, in a thrilling boys 16 finale which capped an amazing week of tennis inside the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Onikan, Lagos.

    Captain Stephen Owolabi Martins, MD/CEO Azimuth Shipping Lines Limited and sponsor of the competition, told journalists that the aim of the competition is being met and they shall be improving as the years roll by.

    “Every year, anyone who comes around can testify that things are improving, and that’s because we want to give tennis players an atmosphere for them to enjoy their tennis.

    “I am very happy with the way the competition turns out every year, and this year wasn’t an exception. I’m very happy, very very happy,” he said.

    Richard Inyang, Tournament Director, was particularly impressed with the unprecedented turnout which he said he rallied with his team to manage.

    According to him: “I was first stunned by the number of people who came around, but because of the caliber of people that I worked with, everything went on seamlessly.

    “What I can assure you of, every year, is a proper organization and proactiveness with this tournament, and a very massive appreciation to Captain Stephen Owolabi Martins, his sponsorship of this tournament is a lifeline for many kids who were without hope of playing tournaments.

    “Next year, we expect to be bigger and even better.”
