    Akasha Urhobo Gearing Up For Debut Wimbledon Outing

    Akasha Urhobo will be making her first appearance at the Junior Wimbledon Open when she hits the court this week in the main draw of the event.

    The WTA 325th-ranked player has played the Junior US Open event before but will be making her debut on grass for the first time in what promises to be an exciting chapter in the player’s tennis career.

    According to her dad and private coach, T J Urhobo, the 17-year-old tennis sensation is really excited to be playing the junior Grand Slam on grass for the first time.

    He told Nigeria Tennis Live that the US-born athlete of Nigerian descent has really worked hard to get to where she is in the sport.

    “She’s worked really hard and is excited to be carrying the touch for the family name. Most likely will be seeded as she’s currently 325 WTA.

    “She wants to play the US Open main event August 26th and she is at the verge of making that a reality,” Urhobo told our correspondent.

    Even though she was born American, ‘Kashi’ as the Babolat Ambassador is fondly called, respects her Nigerian roots and the dad has not ruled out the possibility of the player representing Nigeria in the nearest future.

    When asked if she may consider playing at the Billie Jean King Cup event for Nigeria, he said: “Not sure about bjk (Billie Jean King Cup) yet, we are still in talks with her mentor Mr. Toni Urhobo (former AFN president and former head coach of Nigerian track and field).”

    Nigeria surely has talented players scattered across the globe who are eligible to represent the country at international tournaments, and this talented and pristinely gifted player is one of them.
