After Historic CBN Open Win, Nigeria’s Sylvester Reveals Next Destination

Sylvester Emmanuel, the reigning champion of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Senior Tennis Open Championship, has revealed his next destination after the annual tennis competition.

The 20-year-old Nigerian superstar defeated legendary Abdulmumin Babalola in three sets after losing the first set and was within minutes of losing the second before coming into the game strongly, and winning in spectacular fashion.

Sylvester is already looking forward to the next tournaments after the CBN Open championship.

With the win, the former Dala Hard Court Tournament champion, has won every national championship (on hard surface) in the country, and will be looking to add the Rainoil Clay Court tournament to his trophy cabinet.

In an exclusive chat with Nigerian Tennis Live after the CBN Open win, Sylvester expressed his excitement at finally winning the elusive tournament.

“I am very happy on winning at CBN, it is the only tournament I have been waiting to win and finally I have won it,” the Davis Cup player said.

Asked what was going through his mind when Babalola was serving for the match in the second set, the man fondly called Major said: “Nothing really, I was only positive that something must turn out at that point when he was serving for the match and it happened. And I believed and also fought till the end.”

He also explained that playing ITF Futures and the Davis Cup aided his performance at the CBN tournament, adding that “I will be going for tournaments in the next three weeks. I’m not sure where, though, maybe Egypt or Tunisia.”
