I Lost In The First Round Of My First Ever Dala Championship Game – Quadre
Oyinlomo Quadre, the Nigerian teenager who won the Dala Hard Court Tennis Championship over the weekend, has revealed how she was determined to return to the ancient city of Kano for the title after losing her first ever match in the tournament years ago.
Quadre became arguably the youngest Nigerian female tennis star to win national titles back to back having first won the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Senior Tennis Championship in June, 2019.
She followed that up with sterling performances as the Lagos Open ITF World Tour event, where she was arguably Nigeria’s biggest star.
On Saturday, 23 November, the African number four junior player was crowned the new national champion after a stainless outing in the ancient city of Kano.
After winning her latest title, she spoke with Nigeria Tennis Live, explaining how she felt after the win.
She said: “I feel very happy to have been able to win this title.
“Like I said, every title has a meaning to me and I remember my first time playing the Dala Championship, I was given a wildcard but I lost in the 1st round due to injuries at that time.
“I felt very sad that I couldn’t make use of the wildcard properly and vowed to come back to that tournament some day.
“And this is what I did, now the icing on the cake is to have been able to win the tournament so yes, it’s an overwhelming feeling.”
Quadre who’s tagged Nigeria’s biggest revelation, export of the decade, is expecting to get her visa to the United States of America (USA) to participate in the Orange Bowl tournament.
Nigeria Tennis Live will follow up with the youngster’s performance and progress in the coming weeks.
