Nigerian Tennis Live can report that the country’s representatives to the ongoing ITF/CAT Junior Tennis Championship in Tunisia have started giving a good account of themselves.

Reports say young tennis phenomenon, Oyinlomo Quadri, Monday, began her quest for a title at the 16 & under tournament in Tunis, Tunisia with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Boukholda Houria of Algeria.

The 14-year-old is competing at this category for the second time having ruled the 14 and under category few years ago where she won an unprecedented treble of titles in Cotonou, Benin Republic and Lome, Togo.

Oyinlomo Quadri looking to trudge on in the ITF/CAT tournament.

To underline her determination to surpass her feat last year where she was a quarterfinalist, the Lagos-based Aces Tennis Academy player skipped the Central Bank of Nigeria Junior Open where she was a clear favourite for the 16 and under category to compete in a warm up tournament in the Tunisian capital last week.

Speaking after the match, Nigeria’s national junior coach, Mohammed Ubale, who took the players to the North African country, described Quadri’s performance as impressive.

He said: “She played a very good game which, if she sustained, will help her go far.”

Kaduna-based Gabriel Friday and Matthew Abamu are the other Nigerians featuring in the week-long clay-court championship attracting over 50 players from 18 countries.

The draws paired Friday with Ranaivo Toky of Madagascar while Abamu, who is based in Lagos, faces a seemingly tough test as he takes on homeboy Ben Abdullah of Tunisia.
