The Boys’ U-16 match between David Edwards and Chukwudubem Amasiani is expected to put the spectators on the edge of their seats at the ongoing AIF National Junior Tennis tournament in Lagos.

The pair are arguably two of Nigeria’s most gifted junior players at the competition and spectators will be kept on the edge of their seats when they face off in the semifinal on Friday, 29 August 2025.

While Amasiani who won the U-12 title a few years ago will be seeking a berth in the U-16 finals for the first time, Edwards will fancy a chance of one past one of his rivals in junior tennis.

Abuja-based Marvelous Bolarinwa and Gbolahan Olawale will have a go at each other in the second semis in a match that also promises to be a cracker in Lagos.

Mofifunoluwa Atilola who recently returned from a training tour of South Africa, will take on Destiny Tomizayi in what promises to be a mouth watering clash in the Girls’ U-16 semifinal match while Precious Ohimai and Bisola Ogunkolade will play the second semis match.

Tiffany Osho and Success Godwin are also two players expected to give the audience a spectacle at the semis of the ongoing Adewale Isa Foundation National Junior Tennis Championship in Lagos.

Osho had a good game against fast rising Ghana-based Nigerian tennis prodigy, Whitney Orimoloye, as she won 4-1, 5-3 in the Girls’ U-14 quarterfinals to reach the semifinal of the highly-competitive tournament inside the tennis section of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

She will now face Oyinkansola Adejumobi who saw off Sarah Achibong 4-1, 4-0 to book her place in the semis of the championship.

Osho will face a stiff opposition from the Adejumobi to stand a chance to appear in the final of a major national junior tennis event for the first time ever.

Ekiti-based Godwin, on the other hand, had a good game against Alaere Benjamin, bageling her 4-0, 4-0 and has Jemila John-Sani as her only obstacle to reach the final of the AIF junior tennis event.

In the Boys’ U-12 event, Divine Izaka stunned number two seed and crowd favourite, Godwin Afaramai in the quarterfinals with a 1-4, 4-1, 10-8 win to set up a semifinal clash against Emmanuel Ogungbe in what promises to be a classic.

Ogun State-born Ogungbe had little problems defeating Raphael Awi, another revelation from recent tournaments, 4-0, 4-1 to reach the semifinal while Kingsley Godwin and Emmanuel Sandaf will battle for the second final ticket.

Sharon Danjuma defeated last year’s U-12 winner, Goodluck Tersoo in a tense quarterfinal clash which ended 4-2, 5-4(6) to set up a semis tie against Barnabas Alex while Peter Ubiebi will be seeking a berth in the final of the Boys’ U-14 as well.

Nigeria Tennis Live will keep all our readers abreast with information and details from the competition which will end on Saturday, 30 August, 2025.
