Players from different parts of the country will be competing in different age categories including Boys’ and Girls’ 12, 14 and 16 & Under, in what will be a classic return of rivalry among some of the biggest names in Nigerian junior tennis.
Gloria Samuel who was upended by teammate from Ekiti State, Goodnews Aina in the finals of the Girls 16 event of the NNPC- SNEPCo Junior Championship last month in Warri, has vowed to regain her title at the SAPETRO Futures event.
Samuel had won the three junior championships preceding the Warri event, and was inconsolable as her Aina, challenged by her mum to do better than her runner-up showings, played beyond expectation to win her first junior title on the ITA tennis circuit.
The Boys’ 14s and 16s titles will also be highly contested as Goodluck Tersoo, the tennis sensation from Benue who upset Lagos-based Sanni Yahaya to the title at the CBN Junior Open a few months ago, will have to prove that his last win was not a fluke.
