Nigeria’s Sylvester Emmanuel has proven to be one of the country’s top tennis stars after partnering Australia’s Mark Verryth to bundle out the pair of Pedro Bernard (Brazil) Christopher Diaz-Figueroa (Argentina).
Sylvester joined his partner to win the match 4-6, 6-4, 10-6 in the encounter which lasted over one hour inside the court 5 of the tennis section at the National Stadium, Abuja.
With this win, the Nigerian will be looking forward to reaching a doubles final for the first time since he began his journey into the professional tennis circuit.
Sylvester is through to the semis of the doubles event at the ongoing Tombim Abuja Open ITF Futures. |
Clifford Enosoregbe and Thomas Otu were not so lucky in their singles matches as they were both outshined by Zimbabwean top seeds, although they put in their best efforts to ensure they leave on a high.
While Enosoregbe lost 2-6, 1-6, to Benjamin Lock, Otu was outmuscled by Takanyi Garanganga in a 6-2, 6-2 win.
As at the time of filing this report, the other Nigerians contesting for a place in the next round of the competition, Enosoregbe and Henry Atseye, had their doubles match against the number one seed in the doubles; De Paula Fabiano and Romboli Fernando, suspended.
The Nigerian pair were already trailing 5-7 in the first set which lasted about 53minutes.
