Prosperity Ikenna Okonkwo defeated Daniel Adeleye in two straight sets to clinch his first ever Junior ITF Title in Abuja, Nigeria’s federal capital.

The 15-year-old who was making his second appearance at a Junior ITF event final on Sunday, 9 June, 2024, was made to fight for every point he made at the competition, and deservedly won the event.

Okonkwo had reached the final of a J30 Abuja event a few months ago, losing to fellow Aurum Academy compatriot, Seun Ogunsakin, but he made it count at the second time of asking.

He defeated Adeleye, the highest ranked Nigerian player on the Junior ITF ranking 6-2, 6-2, to win the boys’ Singles event and also cop a medal in the Doubles final.

The teenager who always looks deadly on the court was not the only player from the famous Aurum Academy to win laurels over the weekend, in fact they won five gold and one silver medal in total.

While Tunisia-based Ohunene Yakubu won the girls’ Singles title by defeating Alisha Ndukwu, she partnered Success Ogunjobi of Aurum to win the Doubles event.

Okonkwo and Franklin Jimoh partnered to defeat Mubarak Ganiyu and Yulin Li in the boys’ Doubles final, leaving Aurum with three medals in the team event.

Below are some pictures from the winners of the event which ended last weekend inside the tennis section of the National Stadium in Abuja.
