Governor’s Cup Tennis: Hardfighting Bulus Loses Baptism Of Fire, Adetayo Too

For Christopher Bulus, the Wild Card entrant to this year’s Governor’s Cup Tennis Championship, his first and only match in the Futures 4 of the pro-circuit, would not have gotten any better than it did.

Although the junior tennis star who won the boys Singles at the Junior ITF Circuit in Togo recently did not win his match against power playing Alexis Klegou of Benin Republic, he gave a good account of himself and showed how much he has grown over the years.

Bulus fought really hard in the game against the more experienced Beninoise, forcing the Governor’s Cup regular face to make some avoidable errors while also putting the towering player under pressure on his way to losing 4-6, 5-7.

Christopher Bulus did not win, but he had a really great game.

After the game, the young fighter was all smiles as he spoke with Nigerian Tennis Live, saying: “I lost my match, but I played well.”

Prior to the match, Coach Abel Ubiebi, Bulus’s trainer had warned that the duel was a match to look out for and he was right, because he put up a commanding effort which earned him series of encomiums from the people watching from the stands at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Onikan, which has now become a beehive of activities following the commencement of the ITF-rated championship.

In a similar vein, Adetayo Adetunji lost her encounter against Aksu Ayla, the tournament’s number two seed, in a 0-6, 4-6 which also proves her development and hard work prior to the tournament.

“I am really happy to have played my first ever match on the circuit, it feels really good. And even though I lost, I was glad to have put in my best.

“At the beginning, it was really tough and I lost the first set quite easily, but I picked up in the second set to ensure I got the best out of the game. Even though I lost, I felt better afterwards,” the 16-year-old South-Africa based tennis prodigy stated.
