Nigeria, South Africa Battle For World Team Cup Africa Qualification Final Playoff

The Nigerian female team will have their hands full when they take on South Africa in a bid to reach the final rounds of the BNP Paribas World Team Cup Africa Qualification event.

South Africa are the bookmakers favourite to land the tickets to represent Africa at the main event in Turkey later this year, but Nigeria will fancy their chances against the table toppers.

Team Nigeria reached the semifinal playoffs by coming second in a group that had Morocco and Ghana. The Nigerian women had beaten Ghana 3-0 in the first match but failed to go past their Moroccan opponents in the second round of matches.

To reach the next phase of the qualification event, the Nigerian women consisting of Kafayat Omisore, Kemi Oluwasegun and Foluke Shodeinde will have to work extremely hard against South Africa’s Kgothatso Montjane and 27-year-old Mariska Venter.

In the other fixture, Morocco Women will play against Tanzania, who are themselves, no push overs in this competition, having secured second spot in a group that had South Africa, Kenya and Egypt.

The Nigerian Men, having topped the group which had Cameroon and Egypt, will face eternal wheelchair tennis rivals, Morocco, to decide who reaches the final playoff scheduled for Sunday, while South Africa will play against Rwanda who qualified for the second phase as one of the Lucky Losers from the three pools.

Matches are expected to serve off by 10am on Saturday, 10 February, 2024, inside the tennis section of the National Stadium in Abuja, Nigeria’s Federal Capital, where the World Team Cup event is currently holding.
