New National Rankings To Emerge After Dala Tòurnament; Who Will Be The New No 1?

Baring last minute changes, the Nigeria Tennis Federation should send out a new set of national rankings after the recently-concluded Dala Hard Court Tennis Championship which was won by Thomas Otu.

Nigerian Tennis Live gathered that the ranking points were already being collated and are being processed as soon as the tournament was concluded in the ancient city of Kano on Saturday, 25 November.

Our correspondent reached out to the tournament’s referee, Mrs. Arinola Isa for the ranking as soon as the competition was concluded and she referred him to the president of the Nigeria Umpires Association, Mr. Musa Saidu.

Will Joseph Imeh emerge as Nigeria’s new number one male tennis player when the new rankings are released?

Saidu informed Nigerian Tennis Live authoritatively that the ranking points had yet to be collated even though work had commenced on getting that done already.

He added, however, that: “We should have them ready by Wednesday and you’ll get a copy as soon as that happens.”

The odds are that losing finalist at the Dala Hard Court championship, Joseph Imeh, may have accumulated enough points to emerge as the country’s number one player for the first time ever.

Even though he also lost the 2017 Senior CBN Open to Abdulmumin Babalola, Imeh has played in two national finals and would have amassed enough points to lead the log as Nigeria’s number one male player before the commencement of the Rainoil Tennis Open Tournament in Lagos.

In the female category, Sarah Adegoke who relinquished her crown to Blessing Samuel in Kano, is likely to stand strong as the number one female player after winning the 2017 CBN Senior Open and losing in the final of the Dala tournament.

Nigerian Tennis Live will monitor the ranking and publish the latest ratings as soon as they are released by the federation.
