Samuel Adegbite came out tops in one of the longest matches yet at the ongoing J30 Lagos Junior ITF competition in Lagos State on Monday, 10 November, 2025.
The Lagos-based tennis teenager was up against Ido Ifargan-Frenkel, a player from Israel, in one of the opening matches at the ITF World Tennis Tour Juniors event, and the match turned out to be a three-hour affair.
Adegbite lost the opening set 2-6 in what looked set to be a straight sets win for his opponent, but the Nigerian player rode on home support to rally back into the game and take the second set 6-2.

In the ensuing final set, it was the Lagos-based tennis youngster who got the better of both players who already looked tired from hours of consistent return of balls.

The match ended 2-6, 6-2, 7-5 to a loud round of applause by the spectators and the friends of the tennis talent who were on the sidelines to watch the keenly contested match.
In other matches played on Monday, top seed, Mubarak Ganiyu, defeated Iyanuoluwa Taiwo 6-3, 6-4 while UK’s Oluwajomiloju Aminu bettered Paul Adebisi with a 6-0, 6-1 win.

Lucky Loser Onyekachi Ogumjiofor fell 2-6, 2-6 to Vyom Shah, the number two seed from India just as Australia’s Abhik Khatry beat Heman Afaramai 6-2, 7-5 to book a spot in the second round.

Nigeria’s Gbolahan Olawale who reached the main draw through the qualifiers, bageled Doron Hirsch from Israel 6-0, 6-0 to secure his round 16 spot while America’s Elliott Awomoyi reached the second round after defeating France-based Nigerian, Jade Nzewi, 6-4, 6-0.
In the girls’ event, India’s Samaira Kohli got the better of Osaherun Osayimwen, winning 6-0, 6-1 while Emmanuella Kwange was defeated by Glory Samuel in a game that ended 6-3, 6-0.
Budding tennis sensations, Omoyinka Ayinla and Success Godwin recorded statement wins on Monday to advance to the second round of the Junior ITF event in Lagos.

Ogun State’s Omoyinka was clinical during her match against Fareehah Adams, winning 6-3, 6-0 while Godwin stunned Canada-born tennis player, Daisy Okechukwu 6-4, 7-5 to advance in Lagos.
Bright Emmanuel beat Nenrot Suwa 6-4, 6-3 while Fego Ayetuoma stopped youngster Tiffany Osho with a 6-3, 6-4 victory.
Action continue on Tuesday inside the tennis section of the Lagos Country Club, Ikeja GRA, Lagos, venue of the clay court ITF World Tennis Tour Junior event.
