One of Nigeria Tennis Live’s articles has been listed among the top ten articles in Africa for the Best Colour Piece category at the 2024 AIPS Awards.
The International Press Sports Association (AIPS) awards celebrate journalists from different parts of the globe for their contributions to sport and impact of their reportage, and Nigeria Tennis Live’s Damilare Okunola has been listed among this year’s writers.
In an article titled: “AIPS Sport Media Awards 2024 Continental rankings unveiled: Meet the best performers in Africa” shared on their website, the AIPS listed our correspondent among the top ten writers in the BEST COLOUR PIECE category.

The article that caught the attention of the jury was that of tennis giving an alternative to youngsters, and helping them stay away from social vices.
In the article, the stories of how several tennis players from Nigeria and Ghana were given to tennis as a way of staying away from crime, drugs, violence, were highlighted and spotlighted, and it was adjudged as one of the best articles in that category from Africa.
An elated Okunola, after receiving the news, noted that the recognition by the AIPS is a testament to the consistent works being done by the tennis organization.

“It’s not farfetched to be recognized like this, but it is a huge honour, to share the top ten with well-established and recognized media organizations across Africa.
“What this means to everyone associated with Nigeria Tennis Live is ‘growth’, and it also implies more work, because we cannot afford to drop this standard.
“Thank you so much, AIPS, we are really grateful for this recognition. We are surely coming for the top prize soon, haha…,” he said after receiving the news.
