Ndidi Osaji is one of Nigeria’s shining junior tennis youngsters, but there is more to the tennis prodigy than just the racket game.

Not only does she hold sway as one of Nigeria’s best junior tennis talents, she is arguably one of few with exceptional talents in other sports.

Osaji, who comes from an active sports-loving family, blazes the trail as one of her school’s most gifted basketball players, captains her school’s football team and plays volleyball whilst still holding sway as a table tennis and badminton starlet.

In recent weeks, not only has she participated in each of these sporting activities, she was adjudged the best defensive midfielder during the recent Aisen U-17 Girls Football Competition held in Lagos State, Nigeria.

During regular playing period, she lost a penalty kick but was brave enough to take another penalty kick to ensure her team secured the maximum points and win the nervy encounter.

When she crossed over to basketball, the story was not dissimilar to what happened during the football match.

Despite her size, the 15-year-old moved with so much alacrity and was one of the toughest players to come up against during the match.

She was as defensive as she was attack-minded during the encounter, as she blocked a couple of shots from her opponents, and made a number of passes to give her team a chance of winning the match.

The icing on the cake for the youngster was when she participated in an Amazon Tennis Championship created to celebrate the 2025 International Women’s Day.

She played alongside Fareehah Adams, Sonia Igbinovia and Jasmine Osho, three other young players, in a round robin format.

Playing under the watchful eyes of her ever-supportive and present dad, Jude Osaji, Ndidi ensured she came out tops in all the matches she played as she showed just why she is among the elite junior tennis players in Nigeria.

After the competition, the proud dad who always travels with her to play competitions within and outside the country, could not hide his smiles.

“She hasn’t even been playing competitive tennis for a while because of school, but she has been training and you can see the effect of the training in her performance.

“Her participation in other sports is also helping to keep her very fit for tournaments like this and it was obvious today that she is even a better player than the last time she competed.

“Rest assured that this is not even the best of her yet. By the time she returns fully to tennis, we will see a lot more of what she has been working assiduously on,” he told Nigeria Tennis Live.

Even though she has been in and out of tennis for a while because of her academic commitments, the talented player had done enough to remind Nigerians that she remains a player to beat in her age category.

All other things being equal, it will not be too long before we see a return of the teenage tennis sensation on the tennis circuit.

But until then, one may not be too wrong to describe Ndidi as a Jack of all Trades and a master of all!
