David Ekpenyong and Aanu Ayegbusi will end 2024 as Nigeria’s number one male and female tennis players respectively, Nigeria Tennis Live can confirm.

Even though none of both players won the last tournament of the year – the Dala Hard Court Tennis Championship in Kano, their points from the year and previous events put them ahead of others in the newly-released ranking by the Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF).

Ekpenyong won the DavNotch and VEMP Open events earlier in the year while Ayegbusi won the DavNotch tournament in Abuja.

Despite not winning the Dala event, both players will remain Nigeria’s number one players ahead of the 2025 tennis season.

Canice Abua and Khadijat Mohammed who both won the Dala Men and Women’s Singles event a few weeks ago, kept up with their pursuit of the top players on the ranking.

Abua is now up to third while Mohammed is just 25 points behind Ayegbusi in second place as she remains in pole position to rise to the pinnacle of Nigerian Women’s tennis ranking.
