Jebutu Emmanuel, Nigerian tennis player now based in the United States, recently returned to Nigeria after spending about eight months abroad.

The tennis star was sighted around the tennis section of the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos, which happened to be his former training centre before he made the switch abroad.

Nigeria Tennis Live took the opportunity to ask him a few questions about his stay in the United States and how he’s been able to combine schooling and playing tennis.

“It feels good, I learnt a lot, and I also improved a lot. I met a lot of people in the United States as well.

“Tennis in the US is different and you play a lot of matches and a lot of stretches that we don’t do in Nigeria. You need to stay focused and ensure you remain at the top because they’re recruiting more players.

“I’ve been really focused and train a lot and I see a lot of difference in my game. I went to the McKinney Facility to train as well and there’s a lot of improvement in my game,” the humble tennis player fondly called Ijebu by his close friends, stated.

The Weatherford College student was recently named among the most outstanding students in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) for the 2023/2024 session.

And he told Nigeria Tennis Live that “My aim is to put Nigerian tennis on the world map and make my country proud because I’m the only Nigerian in my school and I play as the number one/two alongside some top players and that’s a big achievement for me.

“My plan for the new season is to meet up with my class and train harder for the new tennis season.

“The kits are ready, and I just need to get there and train harder for the matches. I just came around to visit family and my loved ones”.

Nigeria Tennis Live will keep tabs on the activities of Jebutu as he looks set to take College tennis a notch higher in the coming season.
