Nigeria has been officially confirmed as the hosts for the 2024 Davis Cup Africa Group III qualifying rounds, Nigeria Tennis Live has gathered.

Nigeria qualified for Group III of the Davis Cup alongside Ghana, after a very amazing and scintillating run in Kigali, Rwanda, in 2023.

The Nigerian quintet of David Ekpenyong, Uche Oparaoji, Wilson Igbinovia, Peter Lawal and Christopher Bulus, guided by Coach Benson Ishicheli, were at their prolific best in Rwanda, where qualification was sealed.

Better news than this, this year, is the fact that Nigeria will now be hosting the qualification for Group II in the country’s capital, after the bid to host the event was submitted early this year.

Engr. Ifedayo Akindoju, the president of the Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF), confirmed to Nigeria Tennis Live that the hosting rights have been given to Nigeria.

Asked if Nigeria has been given the hosting rights, he said: “Yes, 15th July” an indication that Nigeria will be hosting the event from 15 July, 2024.

Also confirming the news was the Secretary General of the NTF, Makpa Aliyu, who noted that it has now been made official by the ITF via a letter sent to the federation.

According to him: “Yes, I can now confirm to you that Nigeria will be hosting the Davis Cup Group III qualifier this year.

“I have the letter sent by the ITF with me and I can confirm it to you, officially, that we are preparing to host the other nations.”

Namibia, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Ivory Coast, Benin and Nigeria will be competing for two slots in Group II during the qualifying round.

Nigeria Tennis Live will be sure to bring you all the updates from the competition which Nigeria will be hoping to win, especially with the crop of players at her disposal.
