Top seeds at the ongoing J30 Abuja ITF event have advanced to the quarterfinals of the event after some amazing tennis inside the tennis section of the National Stadium, Abuja.

All the players seeded won their matches, although they met with stiff oppositions on their way to achieving this feat.

Daniel Adeleye, the J30 Abuja number one seed, did not break a sweat when he defeated budding tennis sensation, Ayomide Oduwaye in a 6-0, 6-1 win while top junior starlet, Seun Ogunsakin wasted no time in seeing off Namibia’s Joel Hiveluah in a game that ended 6-2, 6-1.

Number two seed at the competition, Joseph Franklin Jimoh beat Abdullahi Mohammed from the Mambilla Barracks in two straight sets of 6-2-, 6-1.

Spectators were thrilled to some amazing tennis actions when the competition’s number six seed, Yahaya Sani Inabo and Fu Wang Choi took to the court for their match.

The match which lasted 2hrs 53mins ended in favour of the Nigerian player, but it was not a stroll in the park for him. After picking the first set, Inabo lost the second set despite leading 4-1 at some point in the game.

Fu Wang who was beginning to show signs of fatigue had no answer to Inabo’s questions in the final set which ended 6-0 in favour of the Nigerian junior.

Another match that thrilled the fans at the tennis section was between Tobi Agboola and Leo Hsu from Taipei. The Nigerian player picked the first set 7-5, but his opponent came back more ruthless in the second and third, winning 6-3, 6-3.

Mubarak Ganiyu and Jade Nzewi produced a pair up that will live for a while on the minds of those who were present at the court on Thursday evening.

The former Nigerian number one U-16 player won the match in two sets, but it was a fight from start to finish as the game ended 7-6 (4), 6-4.

    Khadijat Mohammed

Karim Mansurov from Russia, the tournament’s number eight seed also won his match against Umar Abu, another Mambilla Barracks player in the tournament.

The Girls Singles matches did not offer as much excitement as the matches ended in two straight wins for the top players.

Khadijat Mohammed defeated Oluwanifemi Makanjuola 6-0, 6-0, while Toluwalashe Agunbiade beat Bisola Ogunkolade 6-0, 6-1 ahead of Friday’s quarterfinal matches.
